Malcolm B. Wiseheart, Jr.

WISEHEART, MALCOLM B. JR., 74, a prominent Miami attorney, passed away at his home in Coral Gables on January 22, 2017. Born in Miami, he graduated from Yale University in 1965. He continued his education in England, where he earned a Master’s Degree in English Jurisprudence from Cambridge University in 1967 and, shortly thereafter, became a Barrister-at-Law at Gray’s Inn in London. After returning to the States, he earned a second law degree in 1970 from the University of Florida. In 1973, he established his own firm in Miami, which specialized in real estate and Landlord and Tenant Law. Between 1977 and 1990, he served as Special Master for the Property Appraisal Adjustment Board for Dade County. He was a frequent lecturer for various professional associations in South Florida, especially on legal matters related to the operation of rental housing. A lifelong Francophile and student of the French language, he helped to create the French International Studies Program at Sunset Elementary School and Carver Middle School for which he received the insignia Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Acad‚miques, a prestigious honor bestowed by the French government to recognize those who have made a significant contribution to French education and culture. He also served as president of the Wiseheart Foundation, which has provided assistance to schools, churches, and charitable organizations since 1953. He is survived by his wife, Michele R. Wiseheart of Coral Gables; two sons, Malcolm B. Wiseheart III and William R. Wiseheart, both of Coral Gables; two sisters, Carolyn W. (George) Milne of Englewood, New Jersey, and Elizabeth W. (Michael) Joyce of Coral Gables; six nieces; and six nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at Plymouth Congregational Church, 3400 Devon Road, Coconut Grove, Florida. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Yale University Alumni Fund or to Plymouth Congregational Church.
