William Howard Moran passed away on October 5, 2012, after a two-year battle with brain cancer. Bill lived in Alstead, NH with his adoring wife Judy who says she misses him every day and still walks with him on their farm in rural New Hampshire.

Bill was born in River Forest, IL and graduated from Oak Park-River Forest High School. He went from an American studies major at Yale to a Master’s degree in American culture from the University of Michigan in 1969. While at Yale, Bill was actively involved in singing (Freshman Chorus, Apollo Glee Club and Yale Glee Club), tennis (freshman and varsity tennis) and freshman soccer. Later, Bill won a teaching fellowship at American University in Beirut, Lebanon. Following his studies, he taught English and was the dean of students at the Cranbrook Boys School in Michigan, then was the dean of students at Kingwood Girls School in the same town before becoming third head of school from 1979- 1998 of Purnell School, an all-girls school boarding school in Pottersville, NJ, primarily for grades 9-12.
