Ted Cox remembers: “Sadly, Peter Grillo, our Yale classmate and my Phillips Academy, Andover classmate, as well as my neurosurgical partner for many years, passed away on August 6 at his home in Windham, New Hampshire.

“Peter was a well-respected practicing neurosurgeon in the Merrimack Valley area of northern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire for many years and played a major role in the establishment and management of the Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital in Salem, New Hampshire . After Yale he trained in medicine at Harvard, and then in neurosurgery in the Cornell program in New York City.”



Dr. Peter J. Grillo, MD, 76, of Windham, NH, died Tuesday, August 6th, surrounded by his family.

Dr. Grillo was born in Lawrence, MA. He grew up and was educated in Andover, MA, where he graduated from Phillips Academy. He received his undergraduate degree at Yale University in physics, and graduated from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Grillo completed his residency in neurosurgery at Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York, NY. He was a resident of Windham for the past 33 years.

Dr. Grillo was a neurosurgeon and partner at New England Neurological Associates since 1976. He served on the board of the Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital Network since its founding in 1984. He was a member of St. Matthew’s Parish in Windham. He loved reading about math and physics, cooking, and gardening, but most of all he loved being with his family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years: Marion L. Grillo of Windham, NH.

He is also survived by his two children, Lola Maria Grillo of Long Island, NY, and James Edward Grillo of Windham, NH, and by his brothers, James Grillo of Andover, MA, John Grillo of Byfield, MA, and Michael Grillo of Penobscot, ME.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Aug. 11th from 2-5 PM at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Rd, Windham, NH. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Aug. 12th at 10 AM at St. Matthew’s Church, Windham, NH. Burial will follow in New Plains Cemetery, Windham.
