Herbert Cole Labouisse

After graduating from Yale, Herbert Labouisse moved to California and studied art history at U.C.L.A., where he roomed with fellow ’65ers Alan Gordon and George James.
He returned home to New Orleans and married in 1978. Herbert and his wife, Eden, had three children, David, Winston, and Kate, and lived in Bay St. Louis, MS until they divorced.
Herbert got his seaman’s papers and worked on a ship delivering supplies for the U.S. military during the buildup to the first Gulf War. He returned to New Orleans and worked as a tour guide.
Herbert battled mental illness for much of his life, and on February 3, 1998, took his own life.
