Class Notes September/October 2006Class Notes September/October 2006Don’t forget our Class Dinner on Friday, October 27, at The Yale Club of New York City, chaired by Bob Leich. Ron Wilmore will be our speaker. While connecting with classmates, friends, and family from Savannah to Washington, DC, Donna and Robin Cody visited Suzanne and me on Virginia’s “Northern Neck.” Robin continues to write about the outdoors and Donna enjoys her work as a school librarian. John Leo has been named the first full time director of the Program in Film Media (the equivalent of a departmental chair) at the University of Rhode Island. As such, John will exercise administrative and budgeting oversight, develop curriculum and strategic plans, raise money, recruit faculty et cetera. John’s program has 75 majors now, which he expects to increase to 100 by year-end. Among John’s ideas is the production of documentaries with URI’s Oceanography School, involving Prof. Richard Ballard of “Titanic” exploration fame. Congratulations, John! Ed Robertson wrote,” I have been diagnosed with cancer of the lymph nodes. After two surgeries and some chemotherapy, two more cancerous nodes have manifested themselves. Don’t know how this is going to turn out.” Ed’s address is 972 Rye’s Chapel Road, Southside, TN 37171-9128; telephone: 931-387-4003; email: robertson2073@bellsouth.net. We are rooting for a complete recovery. Nancy and Steve Vignolo have escaped from New Jersey and joined the migration to Tidewater, VA. They now live at 141 Hollinwell, Williamsburg, VA 23188; telephone 757-645-4292. Joan and Pete Gorczyk are their neighbors. Ron Wilmore has retired as executive director of Northwest Settlement House in Washington, D.C., and ascended to emeritus status. Ron’s lifelong commitment to making the world a better place is a credit to himself, Sandy, and our Class. Grandchildren department. Virginia and Randy Totten were presented in June with a second grandson, Arthur Randolph Totten. Suzanne and I had our string of seven (count ‘em) consecutive grandsons broken this summer with two granddaughters, Casey and Kendrick. How about that! We have been having a lively (to say the least) dialog on Listserv, our class email bulletin board, but we could use some new blood and ideas.
